Bone Builders at KP

Registration is required--this is not a drop in class and space is limited.
Bone Builders is a twice-weekly one-hour class for seniors 55+ sponsored by the Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services and the Kensington Park Library. This free, enjoyable, evidence-based bone-building and fall prevention program is designed to improve muscle strength, bone density and balance over time with continued commitment. Participants must attend BOTH the Monday and Wednesday classes, be able to exercise sitting and standing, and be able to walk safely without canes, walkers or wheelchairs. Registration is limited to 18 participants.

Participants must purchase their own weighted leg cuffs and hand-weights—requirements & purchase information will be provided at the first class. Participants should bring a water bottle to each class, wear supportive shoes with covered toes and heels, and dress for exercise. Arrive 10 minutes before class to set up.

Filled with diverse stories and activities that promote and develop language skills and imagination. These programs encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading and learning and introduce them to the culture of reading.

A storytime experience for our youngest library users and their caregivers, specifically ages 0 – 23 months. These 20-30 minute storytimes introduce a diverse collection of books, songs, rhymes and bounces developmentally appropriate for children from birth to when they start walking. This is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the joys and culture of reading in a positive and fun atmosphere. This story time is designed so the baby will be in their caregiver’s lap and the grownup is actively involved in the program.

Get up and get moving at storytime! These 20-30 minute programs are full of a diverse collection of books, songs and fun activities specifically for ages 24 months – 5 years old. They are designed to introduce your child to the culture of reading and help develop your child’s language skills. Children are encouraged to engage with the stories and activities, and their grownups to participate in the program along with the children.

Enriching the Lives of Seniors: Montgomery County Resources Fair

Spend the afternoon with us for a whole array of information gathering, presentations and activities. We will have representatives from all over the county providing information on departments and resources pertaining to senior issues from health, transportation, housing, and recreation. Presentations will include online resources for seniors through the library website, National Library of Medicine resources, exercise class on bone building, author talk on "I Love Being Old," and more.
