Taiko with Mark H. Rooney

Mark H. Rooney is a performing artist who teaches taiko, a form of full-body drumming based in Japanese tradition. Children will learn the basics about kumidaiko (group drumming), as well as its cultural context, through interactive exercises and games during this dynamic and engaging workshop. This program is generously sponsored by Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Inc. This summertime program for children and their families is recommended for children ages 5 and up.

Free tickets will be available 30 minutes before the program; space is limited.

Through active, hands-on learning, children will explore the sun’s energy, the phases of the moon, human survival in space, and how rockets overcome Earth’s gravity. This is a two-part series and children must be able to attend both sessions; session 1 is on Monday, July 23rd and session 2 is on Wednesday, July 25th.

This program is for children entering 2nd and 3rd grade. Registration required; register online or by calling the library at (240) 777-0970 beginning June 25th.

Build and Learn with DUPLO ®

Drop in for a session of imaginative construction with DUPLO® (ages 2-5), and EDU-BLOCK (ages NB-2). We supply the blocks, so please leave yours at home. Your creations must be left at the library, but may be photographed before deconstruction. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
