Blitz Chess Tournament

Event Type: NONE
Date: 5/16/2013
Start Time: 6:00 PM
End Time: 8:00 PM
Description:
Please join us for a FREE, fun-filled evening of blitz chess (game in 5, no delay) Boards and clocks will be provided. Kids and adults are welcome, no U.S. Chess Federation membership is required, as this will not be a USCF rated event. Glory and honor will be bestowed to top players, and a fun-time to all who participate.

Blitz chess, also known as speed chess, is like regular chess, except each side is given much less time than usual to make their moves. In this case, each side is given 5 minutes. That means players must think fast or lose on time! Blunders will be made under time pressure by both sides, and no game is really lost until it's over. Test your quick thinking and fighting spirit with us at the Blitz Chess Party!

We will also hold a blitz chess practice session on May 13, from 4:00
- 6:00 pm at the library's cafe. This is a great opportunity to practice with a chess clock before the tournament. Any player who hasn't played fast time controls before (and younger players
especially) should definitely come by and test out the clock to see if you are ready for the added challenge of 5 minute time controls.

This tournament is brought to you courtesy of the St. Mary's County Library, and will be run by the Maryland Educational Chess Association. For questions about the tournament, please e-mail info@mecachess.org.
