“Where do you get your stories?” It’s a common question, and one with no easy answer. It’s tempting to just say, “Everywhere!” but let’s get specific. This session will guide participants to consider sources for effective stories, with the audience, environment, and desired effects in mind. We’ll explore a variety of sources – mining your own life for compelling experiences, finding fascinating nuggets in the experiences of others -- both famous and not-so-much, discovering historical pivot points, adapting authored tales, referencing well-known folktales for common ground. Participants will leave with several ready-to-tell stories and ideas for more. Attendance is limited to 20 persons and registration is strongly suggested. Contact the library staff for details.
