Twenty-Six Seconds That Changed History: A Conversation with Alexandra Zapruder
1/18/2018
7:00 PM
Abraham Zapruder didn’t know when he ran home to grab his video camera on November 22,1963, that this single spontaneous decision would change his family’s life for generations to come. Originally intended as a home movie of President Kennedy’s motorcade, Zapruder’s flm of the president’s assassination is now a part of American history. It is the most famous example
of citizen journalism, but few know the complicated legacy of the
film itself.

Now Abraham’s granddaughter, Alexandra Zapruder, tells the
complete story for the frst time, in Twenty-Six Seconds: A Personal History of the Zapruder Film. With the help of the Zapruder family’s exclusive records, memories, and documents, she tracks the flm’s tortuous journey through history. Part biography, part family history, and part historical narrative, the book demonstrates how one man’sunwitting moment in the spotlight shifted the way politics, culture, and media intersect.

Alexandra Zapruder will be in conversation with journalist Eric
Weiner, author, most recently, of The Geography of Genius and a
former correspondent for NPR. A book signing will follow and coffee will be served, courtesy of our generous friends at Kefa Café.

Location: Silver Spring Library, 3rd Floor, Meeting Rooms 1 & 2
