First through third graders, especially beginners learning to read and those who want to improve their confidence in reading skills, are invited to practice reading aloud in short (10-15 minute) semi-private sessions with a certified therapy dog. Sign up begins 15 minutes before program. First-come, first-served.

Montgomery County Agricultural Fair at Potomac Library

Do you want to meet a farm animal? Find out which live animal will visit the library that might be seen at the fair and learn about their care and feeding. The staff will talk about the fair, sing some songs with the audience, read a story, have an appropriate craft, and have a goody bag for each child (while supplies last). Free! No registration, but space is limited.

Players will be organized to play games. Coaching will be provided for those who do not know how to play. Simple chess strategies and concepts will be taught. No equipment is required. Just show up and have fun. Kids under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Scales and Tales - Animal Homes

Take an imaginary hike through forests and fields with a Scales and Tales naturalist from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Children will learn about animal habitats and meet live animals during this educational and entertaining program.
