JEFFERSON CAFE

The group will discuss "Do We Still Segregate Students?" by Julie Halpert, from Pacific Standard, Sept./Oct. 2012. Jefferson Cafe provides a format for grassroots discussion, focusing on topics in American life and the role of the United States in the global community. It features no expert presenter. The Café takes the name of Thomas Jefferson because he was one of our most intellectual presidents, he delighted in stimulating conversation around a dinner table, he lived far enough back in time to evoke no particular partisan identification, and his life raises many interesting and provocative questions.

The group is limited to 15 participants so that everyone can see and hear everyone else while sitting around a table. We strive for full participation, asking those who are comfortable speaking in public be sensitive to the fact that others are more cautious about expressing themselves, and that those who are shy by nature try to find an opening without necessarily waiting to be called on.

Copies of the articles to be discussed are available at the Library’s information desk. Funding for reproducing the articles is provided by the Friends of the Library, Chevy Chase Chapter.

Dollhouse Miniatures Club
