Steve Brisson, Deputy Director for the Mackinac State Historic Parks will be sharing the history of Mackinac Island from just prior to European contact to the present. Considered by Native Americans to be the place where the world began, the island and Straits of Mackinac region have been a major crossroads of human activity for centuries. The main fur trade depot of the upper Great Lakes under the French, British and American regimes, it transformed into a major summer resort in the decades before the Civil War, which is remains today.
